Oscar Nominee Anne Hathaway's Edgy Style Evolution

This Best Supporting Actress nominee has certainly experienced a style transformation. Instead of princess-style gowns, Anne Hathaway's now favoring more radical looks from the likes of Tom Ford,Givenchy and Saint Laurent. Her edgy aesthetic has been met with a range of reactions from praise to criticism. Of course, Anne's probably too busy collecting awards to care what anyone says about her newfound style.

Anne was once synonymous with romantic gowns. The Princess Diaries star looked like a real-life princess in this white ruffled Valentino Spring 2006 Couture gown in July 2011 over in France for The White Fairy Tale Love Ball. Her unexpected style shift can be traced back to when she cut off her hair for her role in Les Misérables. Anne was spotted with the shorter hairdo at Stella McCartney's Resort 2013 presentation this past June in New York City decked out in the designer's ivory suit

It was a much more reserved outfit for the after party, though. Anne sparkled in this Altuzarra Spring 2013 embellished top and black high-waisted skirt ensemble. She accessorized with a Jill Milanclutch and Casadei pumps. For the musical's New York showing the following week, the star surprised everyone by opting for a dominatrix look. Her black taffeta Tom Ford Spring 2013 gown included a revealing slit perfect for showing off the designer’s bondage boots
